Before you go: how to use this Bali itinerary
Five days in Bali is enough for a rewarding first visit if you keep transfers short. We suggest splitting the stay: three nights inland in Ubud and two on the Bukit Peninsula in the south.
Hire a private driver for around 8 hours per day; it costs less than most visitors expect and saves energy for sightseeing.
Day 1: Arrive and settle into Ubud
Transfer from Ngurah Rai airport to Ubud, around 90 minutes. Check in to a villa with a private pool, then walk the Ubud Palace and market lanes before dinner at a rice-field restaurant.
Keep the first evening easy to recover from the journey.
Day 2: Rice terraces, temples and waterfalls
Start with Tegallalang at sunrise, then visit Tirta Empul for a purification ritual. After lunch, cool off at Tibumana waterfall or a coffee plantation with tastings.
End the day with a Legong dance performance at Ubud Palace.
Day 3: Cooking class and wellness
Join a morning market tour and Balinese cooking class, then spend the afternoon on a spa ritual or yoga session. This slow day is a favourite for couples.
In the evening, drive south to Uluwatu or Jimbaran.
Day 4: Uluwatu cliffs and beach clubs
Explore Padang Padang and Bingin beaches in the morning, take a long lunch at a cliffside café and visit Uluwatu Temple before sunset for the Kecak fire dance.
Dress modestly and watch your belongings around the temple monkeys.
Day 5: Nusa Penida or a slow farewell
Adventurous travellers can take an early speedboat to Nusa Penida for Kelingking and Crystal Bay. Others may prefer a spa morning and a final seafood dinner on Jimbaran Beach.
Plan airport transfers with plenty of margin: Bali traffic is unpredictable.
Budget and booking tips
Expect to pay more for villas with private pools in July and August. April to June and September offer the best mix of weather and price.
A tailored package can include all transfers, activities and dinners. The itinerary above is demo content for illustration.
